Greece

Greece is where Western civilization began, and for students, that is not an abstract claim but something they can stand in front of, walk through, and genuinely feel. The Acropolis, the Oracle at Delphi, the ancient agora where democracy was debated and philosophy was born. These are not ruins so much as original sources, the kind that make history, political science, literature, and art suddenly feel urgent and alive. For French immersion groups, Greece adds a rich linguistic layer: the Greek roots embedded in French vocabulary become visible everywhere, and students begin to see their own language differently, tracing the lines between ancient Greek thought and the French intellectual tradition that inherited and transformed it. Few destinations give students the sense, as Greece does, that the ideas they study in school did not appear from nowhere but were argued, tested, and lived by real people in real places that still exist.
