Analyze the structure and function of tropical rainforest ecosystems through guided walks at the Tirimbina Rainforest Center and La Selva Biological Station – one of Costa Rica’s leading ecological research centers.
Investigate the biodiversity of Costa Rica’s cloud forest at Monteverde’s Santa Elena Reserve and the Ranario Frog Pond, examining the ecological roles of key species including amphibians, birds, and mammals.
Evaluate the importance of botanical diversity through the Danaus Ecocenter’s collection of over 600 plant species, 40+ butterfly species, and medicinal plant gardens, connecting plant science to traditional knowledge.
Compare the distinct ecosystems of lowland rainforest (Sarapiqui), volcanic highland forest (Arenal), and cloud forest (Monteverde), examining how altitude and rainfall create dramatically different biological communities.
Develop conservation values and environmental stewardship through active participation in a reforestation program in Sarapiqui, contributing to the global goal of planting one billion trees annually.
