  Having been bit by the travel bug years ago, there was no way I would have been able to stay grounded all summer. After weeks of trying to decide on the right destination, I knew that there was one place that was so high on my bucket list that it needed to be checked off immediately. Coming from an all Italian background, this summer I decided to embark on the grand adventure of visiting the motherland itself: Italy!

If I had all the time in the world I would’ve stayed there for longer... well, actually, I would’ve stayed there forever! Only having two weeks to see and do as much as possible was quite a challenge but I embraced it and planned myself the trip of a lifetime and experienced the importance of a balanced and well-planned itinerary! Of course, like any trip, we had our mishaps, our ups and downs and things we would have redone or planned differently, but I found that our trip had a perfect balance of busy cities and quaint, small coastal towns.

Italy offers such diverse landscapes that every place that we visited made us feel like we had jetted off to a different country. Starting our trip in Venice, the floating city, we then ventured to Cinque Terre, followed by travelling down to Rome for the hustle and bustle of the big city before spending a nice relaxing few days on the Amalfi Coast.

Every city was absolutely incredible, but our favourites were definitely Venice and Cinque Terre. Venice completely blew us away as we got lost navigating our way through the narrow streets of this unique city. We stayed on the edge of  Venice (about a 12-minute walk from Piazza San Marco) in an area that was so quaint and quiet and filled with locals and authentic restaurants. Being further away gave us the opportunity to explore more of Venice and helped us experience the city like a true local.

Manarola, one of the five towns of Cinque Terre, was by far my favourite! This seaside village offered the most incredible views, some of the best food that we had during our whole trip, and not to mention colourful houses that created a dramatic and beautiful backdrop for our days cliff jumping into the turquoise waters of the Ligurian Sea!

After having the opportunity to visit this amazing country, I can truly see why Italy is such an ideal student travel destination. Filled with so much history, art, and culture around every corner, the learning opportunities in Italy are endless!
