France’s Art Essentials Tour – 10 Days

It’s undeniable that France is fundamental in the world of art. This tour includes world-class museums, historical artist studios, unique exhibits, stunning architecture, and inspirational landscapes to provide endless must-see & must-do moments!

Day 1: Travel to France

Travel overnight to France.

Day 2: Paris

Bienvenue en France! Meet your French Prométour Tour Director upon arrival at the airport in Paris.

Your Prometour Tour Director has been chosen specifically with your trip theme in mind, and is a wealth of knowledge in all things French!

Board your motor coach and transfer to the city.

On guided city bus tour discover the most famous monuments & neighborhoods of Paris: Napoleon’s Arc de Triomphe, the Panthéon, the Latin Quarter, Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Opera Quarter, and of course, the Eiffel Tower.

Transfer to the hotel for check-in, and have the remainder of the day to relax.

Day 3: Paris

Breakfast at the hotel.

Walk through the Jardins des Tuileries, the inspiration for Manet’s ”La Musique aux Tuileries”, and still a wonderful place to watch Parisians go about their day.

Have a guided tour of the Musée du Louvre to discover some of its wonderful masterpieces including Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and the striking glass pyramid in front of the museum.

Have the rest of the morning to explore this amazing museum at your own pace, they say if you spent 30 seconds at each piece, it would take 100 days to see every piece of art!

Enjoy some leisure time to see Paris at your own pace! Why not go to the Quartier Latin to shop at the Le Petit Prince Store dedicated to St-Exupéry’s masterpiece, or perhaps stop in at the Musée National du Moyen Age offering a unique view of the art and history of the French Middle Ages?

Have lunch on your own.

Meet your group and then sit back to enjoy the “City of Lights” as you float on board a Parisian River Seine Bateau Mouche dinner cruise.

Day 4: Giverny

Breakfast at the hotel.

Board your motor coach and travel to the Giverny.

Visit Claude Monet’s house and admire the blooming gardens, which inspired the Master of Impressionism year after year to portray his passion for gardening and colors.

Enjoy lunch on your own

Board your motor coach and return to Paris.

Head to Place Igor Stravinsky to take a look at the famous fountain made up of colorful moving sculptures designed by Tinguely & Nikki de Saint-Phalle.

Have the remainder of the day to explore the Marais District, see the many shops on rue Frances Bourgeois and enter Place des Vosges, one of the most beautiful squares in Paris.

Day 5: Paris

Breakfast at the hotel.

Have a   guide visit the magnificent Musée d’Orsay, formerly a train station, and now a museum devoted mainly to impressionist and modernists movements – after your tour have the rest of the morning to explore this wonderful museum.

Have lunch on your own.

Enjoy a guided tour of Opera Garnier, probably the most famous Opera house in the world; it’s known to be the inspiration for Leroux’s “The Phantom of the Opera” and it’s hard not to be impressed by the Chagall frescoes that adorn the ceiling.

Enjoy a funicular ride to the top of the Montmartre hill.

Discover Quartier Montmartre, “La Butte”, it was and still is the source of inspiration to many artists such as Pissarro and Delacroix; be sure to stop at Sacré Coeur to admire its amazing mosaic interior and spend time in the always lively Place du Tertre.

Have an authentic French dinner at La Mère Catherine located in the heart of Quartier Montmartre.

Day 6: Avignon

Breakfast at the hotel.

Transfer by motor coach from your hotel to the train station.

Take the TGV high speed train to Avignon.

Explore the cafe-lined Place de l’Horloge, the site of the city’s imposing Hotel de Ville and clock tower.

Have lunch on your own.

Board your motor coach and travel to Arles.

Join a local guide for a walking tour of Van Gogh’s vision of Arles; see where he set up his easels to paint the Yellow House, the Arena, the Jardins d’été and what is now known as the Espace Van Gogh. Explore the exhibit dedicated to the painter at the Fondation Van Gogh, then enjoy some time in Place de la République.

Day 7: Provence

Board your motor coach and travel to Baux-de-Provence, thought to be one of the most picturesque villages in France.

Leisure time to explore Aix En Provence “la ville aux cent fontaines” with its ring of boulevards and the majestic Cours Mirabeau.

Day 8: Antibes & Grasse

Board your motor coach and travel to Antibes.

Discover the collection at Musée Picasso in Antibes, formerly the Château Grimaldi.

Have leisure time to explore Antibes, a beautiful French Riviera town known for its maze-like Old Town enclosed by 16th-century ramparts, and multi-million-dollar yachts in its marina.

Have lunch on your own.

Board your motor coach and continue on to Grasse, considered to be the world’s capital of perfume.

Visit Parfumerie Fragonard and Boutique to learn how French perfumes are made.

Board your motor coach and return to Aix-En-Provence.

Day 9: Vineyard Tour, Cassis & Marseille.

Breakfast at the hotel.

Board your motor coach and travel to La Londe les Maures.

At Domaine Château Pas du Cerf learn about the Provence region viticulture from the Gualtieri family who have been wine producers for 8 generations. Visit the vineyard, the cellars, and through a quick video, let the four seasons of a vineyard unfold before your eyes. Learn about the different grape varieties and have a tasting of the 3 wines produced on site, followed by a picnic among the vines by the lakeside.

Board your motor coach and travel to Cassis, famous for its cliffs and sheltered inlets.

Hop on a boat to explore the spectacular Calanques, a geological formation in the form of a deep valley with steep sides (3 calanques, 45 minutes).

Board your motor coach and continue on to Marseille, known to be the largest French city on the Mediterranean coast and a major center of art and history.

Enjoy a farewell dinner in a local restaurant with your group.
