Visit Italy: History Tour

DAY 1: HOME – ITALY

Board your transatlantic flight and fly through the night to Italy.

DAY 2: NAPLES – POMPEI

Benvenuti in Italia! Meet your Prométour Tour Director upon arrival at the airport.

Board your bus and travel to Paestum.

Stop in the town Nemi; its grove was the site of one of the most famous of Roman temples, Diana Nemorensis.

Visit the Paestum Archaeological Site & Museum; see the amazing collection of artifacts and walk through the main road of the ancient city, exploring each of the three temples which survive; Temple of Hera, Temple of Neptune and Temple of Ceres.

Continue to Pompei.

Dinner with your group at a local restaurant.

Overnight accommodation in Pompei.

DAY 3: POMPEI

Breakfast at the hotel with your group.

With a local guide, visit the Ruins of Pompeii, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; you’ll see the Forum Baths, Villa of the Mysteries, House of the Small Fountain & Garden of the Fugitives.

Lunch on your own.

Stop in Oplontis to visit Popppeia’s Villa; owned by the Emperor Nero, and used by his second wife Poppaea Sabina as her main residence when not in Rome.

Dinner with your group at a local restaurant.

Overnight accommodation in Pompei.

DAY 4: POMPEI – ROME

Breakfast at the hotel with your group.

Visit the Herculaneum Archaeological Excavations; according to legend, Herculaneum was founded by Hercules, as the originally-Greek city was dedicated to that god and called Herakles.

Stop at the volcanic region known as the Phlegrean Fields to see the impressive Campi Flegrei, “burning fields” in Italian.

Have lunch on your own.

Board your bus and travel to Rome.

While in Rome, travel as the locals do by walking, or taking public transport.

Dinner with your group at a local restaurant.

DAY 5: ROME

Breakfast at the hotel with your group.

Explore the most monumental elements of Rome with your local guide; visit the Colosseum, where gladiators once battled, the Roman Imperial Forum with focus on Roman mythology and a walk through the Roman Forum ending at Palatine Hill.

Enjoy lunch on your own.

Guided visit of the Capitoline Museum; its creation can be traced back to 1471, when Pope Sixtus IV donated a group of bronze statues of great symbolic value to the people of Rome.

Have some time to discover Rome at your own pace.

Dinner with your group at a local restaurant.

DAY 6: ROME

Breakfast at the hotel with your group.

Board your bus and head out to Ostica Antica.

Have a guided tour of Ostia Antica, the harbor of ancient Rome; dive into a moment of Roman antiquity as you explore the ruins, including the Roman amphitheater and necropolis of Isola Sacra.

Enjoy lunch on your own.

Explore Rome’s Piazza’s; Piazza della Rotonda, the Fountain of Four Rivers in Piazza Navona & historic Piazza del Popolo to name a few.

Dinner with your group at a local restaurant.

DAY 7: ROME

Breakfast at the hotel with your group.

With a local guide, visit St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museum including the Raphael Rooms, Tapestry Gallery & Sistine Chapel. Then have time to discover St. Peter’s Square.

Enjoy lunch on your own.

Head to the Campo De’ Fiori; it has been a bustling focal point of Roman life since the middle ages and is where the Romans still gather to purchase fresh local produce at the morning market.

From the Gianicolo Hill see the innumerable domes & bell towers that do the skyline of Rome.

Dinner with your group at a local restaurant.

DAY 8: ROME

Breakfast at the hotel with your group.

Board your bus and travel to Civita di Bagnoregio.

Discover the charms of the hill top town of Civita di Bagnoregio, Italy’s best hidden gem!

Enjoy lunch on your own.

Board your bus and continue on to Cerveteri.

Have a guided tour of the Cerveteri Necropolis, it is the site of the ancient Etruscan city which was one of the most important Etruscan cities with an area more than 15 times larger than today’s town.

Return to home.

Dinner with your group at a local restaurant.

Overnight accommodation in Rome.

DAY 9: ROME – HOME

Breakfast at the hotel with your group.

Transfer to the airport.
