Visit Spain: Moorish Spain History Tour

DAY 1: HOME – MADRID

Board your transatlantic flight and fly through the night to Spain.

DAY 2: MADRID – TOLEDO

Bienvenido a España! Meet your Prométour Tour Director upon arrival at the airport.

Board tour bus and travel directly to Toledo, Spain’s medieval capital.

Enjoy lunch on your own.

With the help of a local guide, learn about Toledo’s fortified walls and its legacy of Churches, Squares, Fortress, Mosques, and Synagogues. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its extensive monumental heritage and historical co-existence of Christian, Muslim, and Jewish cultures.

Enter the 13th-century Gothic Cathedral Santa Maria, it has numerous elements of Mudejar architecture. Another Moorish Construction is now the San Tomé Church.

Dinner at a local restaurant.

Overnight accommodation in Toledo.

DAY 3: TOLEDO – CORDOBA

Breakfast at the hotel.

Board your bus and travel to Cordoba.

Enjoy lunch on your own.

Follow a local guide on a tour of Cordoba and you’ll see how the ancient and modern blend together. Enter the Mezquita, a medieval Islamic mosque converted into a Catholic Cathedral and regarded as one of the most accomplished monuments of Moorish architecture in Spain.

DAY 4: CORDOBA – SEVILLA

Breakfast at the hotel.

Board your bus and travel to Sevilla.

Enjoy lunch on your own.

With the help of a local guide, immerse yourselves in Andalusian culture during a guided walking tour of Sevilla. See the lovely Plaza de Espana and Maria Luisa Park.

Enter the Cathedral of Sevilla, the largest Gothic building in the world and claims to contain the remains of Columbus.

Climb to the top of La Giralda, this Moorish Minaret is the city’s most recognizable monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Finally, enter the Alcazar, the oldest European royal palace still in use and one of the best remaining examples of Mudejar architecture.

DAY 5: SEVILLA

Breakfast at the hotel.

Hop on a boat to get a different view of the city from the Guadalquivir River.

Explore Calle Sierpes, a pedestrian-only street lined with an assortment of shops & cafés.

Enjoy lunch on your own.

Explore the Santa Cruz Quarter, which reflects Sevilla’s romantic image. Walk its narrow and tortuous streets to keep out of the sun and see the whitewashed houses.

DAY 6: SEVILLA – GRANADA

Breakfast at the hotel.

Board your bus and travel to Granada, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in Andalusia.

Enjoy lunch on your own.

This afternoon, visit the magnificent UNESCO World Heritage of the Alhambra and Generalife Gardens; explore beyond the beautiful Moorish architecture to learn the history of one of the most visited attractions in the world.

Then discover the Albacin Quarter; walk through its narrow, twisted streets to experience its lively atmosphere. Don’t miss the view from the Mirador de San Cristobal.

Overnight accommodation in Granada.

DAY 7: GRANADA – MADRID

Breakfast at the hotel.

Board your bus and return to Madrid.

Enjoy lunch on your own.

While in Madrid travel  by walking and taking public transportation.

Have some leisure time at the Puerta del Sol, one of the best known and busiest places in Madrid; admire the buildings, people watch and look for the plaque indicating KM Zero for the roads of Spain.

DAY 8: MADRID

Breakfast at the hotel.

Guided walking tour through Madrid’s oldest quarter! You’ll see the famous Plaza Mayor, the Plaza de España, and the Debod Egyptian Temple, a remarkable 4th-century temple that was transferred stone by stone from Egypt. Then, head over to El Palacio Real for a tour that reveals the royal family’s exquisite collection of tapestries, porcelain, antique clocks, armor, and artwork.

Explore Parque El Retiro; it belonged to the Spanish Monarchy until the late 19th century and is now one of Madrid’s largest public parks.

DAY 9: MADRID – HOME

Transfer by bus to the airport.
