Day 1: Travel To Catania, Italy

Make your way to Catania in Sicily, Italy.

Day 2: Catania

Benvenuti in Italia!

Meet your Italian Prométour Tour Director upon arrival at the airport.

Get to know each other with a stop in a historic bar of Catania to taste typical Sicilian granita & brioche.

On a guided walking tour of Catania, learn about its tormented history and see numerous historical sites; the pescheria (the ancient fish market), Duomo square with its magnificent Cathedral and famous lava-stone elephant statue Liotru (symbol of the city), and the St. Benedict Monastery on the splendid baroque 18th century via dei Crociferi.

Dinner with your group in a local restaurant.

Day 3: Taormina 

Breakfast at the hotel.

Board your motor coach and travel to Taormina.

Make a photo stop of Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano and often snow-capped.

Discovery tour of Taormina with your Tour Director; see the 12th century “Torre dell’Orologio” clock tower, the ornate baroque fountain in Piazza del Duomo, and the Borgo Medievale, the oldest quarter.

Enjoy lunch on your own.  

Have a guided visit of the Teatro Greco-Romano; Taormina’s most visited monument was partially destroyed by the conquering Arabs in the 10th century leaving it in a ruined state.

Day 4: Acate & Ragusa Ibla

Breakfast at the hotel.

Board your motor coach and travel to Acate.

Go to the Valle dell’Acate Winery where the Jacono family has safeguarded their tradition of vine growing and winemaking, including the crown jewel of Sicilian winemaking: the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG. Embark on their “7 terre per 7 vini” (7 soils for 7 wines) tour which includes the vineyards, the former “Palmento” (now the wine museum), and the original channels that flowed wine into the “Dispensa” (the larder), where the tour ends with a tasting of 4 Valle dell’Acate wines, along with a meal highlighting dishes from the territory (traditional local pasta, Sicilian-style vegetables, seasonal fruit, and a typical Sicilian dessert).

Board your motor coach and continue on to Ragusa Ibla, or simply “Ibla”.

Enjoy some leisure time in Ragusa to explore the picturesque narrow streets and old workshops.

Day 5: Siracusa

Meet your local guide for a visit of the Neapolis Archaeological Park, it’s a good comparison of the city’s Greek & Roman Structures.

Day 6: Catania

Have a guide tour of Castello Ursino; surviving a 1693 earthquake when the lava flow from Mount Etna came close enough to fill the moat, this 13th century castle, and one-time famous prison, now houses the Civic Museum of Catania showcasing some of the best with archaeological remains, artefacts and artwork of the region.

Day 7: Piazza Armerina & Agrigento

Board your motor coach and travel to Piazza Armerina.

Visit Piazza Armerina’s 15th century Cathedral; Cattedrale di Maria Santissima delle Vittorie.

Enter Villa Romana del Casale; built in the 4th century AD as a hunting lodge by a Roman patrician, it is now home to some of the best preserved and extensive examples of Roman mosaics.

Board your motor coach and continue on to Agrigento.

Have a guided visit of the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento; the site encompasses the ruined ancient city of Akragas, highlighted by the stunningly well-preserved Tempio della Concordia.

Day 8: Selinunte & Palermo

Day 9: Monreale & Cefalù

Enter the Monreale Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most impressive architectural legacies of the Italian Middle Ages with its amazing Byzantine mosaics.

Enter Cefalù’s Cathedral, considered to be one of the jewels in Sicily’s Arab-Norman crown.

Day 10: Marsala

Breakfast at the hotel.

Board your bus and travel along la Via del Sale (the Salt Road) to Marsala.

En route stop at the Salt Flats of the Nature Reserve of the Stagnone; it is the largest lagoon in Sicily and an ideal habitat for the pink flamingos.

Enjoy some leisure time in Marsala to explore the town at your own pace, be sure to enter the 17th century cathedral!

Discover the history of Marsala fortified wines on a guided visit of the cellars at Florio Winery; the barrel chambers, built at the end of the 19th century, run 165 meters (540 ft) beneath 104 arches, and are still used today for their wines to age in silence and stillness. After the tour enjoy a tasting of 3 Marsala Florio wines with a small food pairing.
